Latvia has chosen: It’s Justs with Heartbeat

With the success of the Supernova national final format last year, the Latvian public broadcaster decided to employ this format once again. The final of Supernova took place in Riga, where four acts performed to win the right to represent their nation at the 61st edition of Eurovision.

The four acts that performed were:

  • Catalepsia – Damnation

  • MyRadiantU – We Will Be Stars

  • Justs – Heartbeat

  • Marta Ritova – Not From This World

The voting was done by the public, who voted in Justs, a small margin ahead of Catalepsia. The song Heartbeat was written by last year’s representative Aminata, who achieved a very respectable 6th place in the final in 2015.

About the artist:

Justs Sirmais is a 21 year old singer, who launched his solo singing career at Supernova this year. His musical inspirations include Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, The Neighbourhood and Glass Animals. Justs past musical interactions include providing lead vocals for Latvian hip-hop artists Gacho, and also being a part of funk-rock band called TaxFree, and also another, Bunch of Gentlemen. His musical beginnings were as a street performer – however this does not mean he is not vocally lacking. He studies at Riga Teacher Training and Educational Management Academy to become a vocal coach for popular and jazz music. One goal he has is to open his own music school. Interestingly enough, he is developing an app that is described as a tinder-like app for musicians!
